North Tapanuli expects to establish new regency<\/p>\n

The North Tapanuli regency administration and local legislature
\n(DPRD) are expecting the central government in Jakarta to support
\nthe local people's aspiration to establish Humbang Hasundutan
\nregency, formerly part of North Tapanuli, early next month.<\/p>\n
As part of the political pressure, North Tapanuli Regent R.E.
\nNainggolan on Wednesday visited to the provincial capital of
\nMedan seeking support from the provincial legislature.<\/p>\n
\"The establishment of the Humbang Hasundutan regency is the
\nwillingness of the people. The area is a remote place, but it has
\na huge potency,\" Nainggolan told reporters after a meeting with
\nAhmad Azhari, speaker of the provincial legislature here.<\/p>\n
Nainggolan revealed that North Tapanuli's district legislature
\nand himself as a regent had endorsed the plan at a plenary
\nsession early this month.<\/p>\n
The agreement was later submitted to the home minister, the
\nNorth Sumatra Governor, and the North Sumatra's provincial
\nlegislature.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the meeting, Ahmad Azhari expressed his support
\nto the demand, promising he would soon invite fellow councillors
\nto expose the proposal.<\/p>\n
\"We support the plan to establish a new regency of Humbang
\nHasundutan since the regent and the regional legislature have
\nagreed. We will just give recommendation to the home minister,\"
\nAzhari said.<\/p>\n
Nainggolan disclosed that Humbang Hasundutan was an area that
\nhad numerous crops, including coffee, and mining.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the natural resources of Humbang Hasundutan
\ncontributed Rp 3.5 billion (US$388,888) each year to the original
\nrevenue of the North Tapanuli regency.<\/p>\n
The total original revenue of the North Tapanuli regency could
\nreach Rp 7.6 billion each year.<\/p>\n
The new regency will consist of nine subdistricts, namely
\nBaktiraja, Doloksanggul, Lintongnihuta, Onanganjang, Pakkat,
\nParanginan, Parlilitan, Pollung and Sijamapolang.<\/p>\n
The capital of the new regency will be in Doloksanggul.<\/p>\n
The nine subdistricts cover an area of 3,335 square kilometers
\nconsisting of 115 villages with a population of about 165,702
\npeople.<\/p>\n
The current regency of North Tapanuli will only have four
\nsubdistricts after the separation.<\/p>",
