The North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumut) has organised\njoint patrols involving personnel from the Civil Service Police Unit\n(Satpol PP), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National\nPolice (Polri), and the National Narcotics Board (BNN) to eradicate drug\ntrafficking in Asahan Regency, North Sumatra.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing the Governor\u2019s instructions, we conducted patrols in\nseveral areas, including drug entry points and regions prone to juvenile\ndelinquency, on Saturday (6\/6) night,\u201d said the Head of North Sumatra\nProvincial Satpol PP, Moettaqien Hasrimi, at the Asahan Regent\u2019s Office\non Sunday.<\/p>\n
He continued that this step is an effort to strengthen the prevention\nand eradication of narcotics while protecting the younger generation\nfrom various forms of social deviation. This action follows data from\nJanuary to May 202_ [sic], which recorded 150 drug cases in Asahan.<\/p>\n
Geographically, Asahan\u2019s location on the eastern coast of Sumatra\nprovides a strategic position with a 56-kilometre coastline facing the\nMalacca Strait. This condition creates vulnerability, as it is\nfrequently exploited by both domestic and international drug syndicates\nas a smuggling route. \u201cThe figures on the ground demonstrate an urgency\nthat cannot be delayed,\u201d said Moettaqien.<\/p>\n
Consequently, the North Sumatra Provincial Government, alongside\nrelevant agencies, conducted joint patrols targeting several locations,\nparticularly nightlife venues in Asahan. At each visited location, joint\npersonnel conducted data collection and urine tests on visitors. \u201cThe\nresults of the examinations showed that all tested samples were\nnegative, and no visitors were found to be positive for drug use,\u201d he\nstated.<\/p>\n
In addition to drug trafficking, Moettaqien also warned that online\ngambling (judol) is an issue that requires serious attention in Asahan.\nHe noted that teenagers addicted to online gambling are at risk of\nfalling into drug abuse and committing crimes to obtain money. \u201cThe\nsecurity and safety of our younger generation are currently at stake.\nTherefore, environmental awareness and the supervision of teenagers are\nextremely important,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
