        "content": "<p>North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya has informed the House of\nRepresentatives\u2019 Commission VIII that the provincial government\ncontinues to accelerate post-disaster recovery efforts in the\nprovince.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently entering the rehabilitation and reconstruction\nphase following the floods and landslides of late November 2025,\u201d said\nDeputy Governor Surya after receiving a working visit from Commission\nVIII at the North Sumatra Governor\u2019s Office on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Governor explained that affected communities have been\nplaced in temporary shelters whilst awaiting the completion of permanent\nhousing being constructed by the government.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the regional administration is focused on preparing\nlivelihood recovery programmes for disaster-affected residents, with\nrepairs to critical infrastructure continuing apace.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) indicates\nthat temporary housing across two regencies in North Sumatra is\npartially complete. In Tapanuli Utara, 40 units are being built in\nSibalanga Village, of which 30 have been completed, with the remainder\ntargeted for completion by the end of February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In Tapanuli Selatan, temporary housing construction has reached 683\nunits across several villages, whilst 133 units of self-built temporary\nhousing are still under construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAffected communities have moved into temporary shelters. We are\ndesigning livelihood revitalisation programmes and restoring critical\ninfrastructure,\u201d said Deputy Governor Surya.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Governor also expressed appreciation for the support of\nboth the central government and the House of Representatives in\npost-disaster recovery across three Sumatran provinces \u2014 West Sumatra,\nNorth Sumatra, and Aceh.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that cross-sector collaboration is key to accelerating\npost-disaster recovery, particularly in North Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur current focus is on strengthening technology-based mitigation\nsystems and community education so that long-term disaster risks can be\nreduced,\u201d said Deputy Governor Surya.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII Ansori Siregar stated that the\nworking visit aimed to channel regional aspirations and conduct budget\noversight.<\/p>\n<p>He affirmed that the House of Representatives continues to push for\nbudget policies that prioritise public welfare, especially in\ndisaster-affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a joint commitment between the central and regional\ngovernments to maintain intensive communication, ensure social\nassistance reaches its intended recipients, and strengthen the social\nresilience of North Sumatra\u2019s communities in an inclusive manner,\u201d\nAnsori emphasised.<\/p>",
