North Korea has condemned the International Atomic Energy Agency\n(IAEA) general meeting discussing the country\u2019s denuclearisation,\nstating that its position as a nuclear-armed state is \u201cabsolute,\u201d\naccording to state media reports on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong\nUn, described the calls for denuclearisation during the 70th regular\nsession of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria, as \u201cfoolish\nbabble that has been heard before,\u201d according to the Korean Central News\nAgency (KCNA).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe position of the DPRK as a nuclear-armed state is absolute and\ncannot be changed by anything,\u201d she said, referring to the Democratic\nPeople\u2019s Republic of Korea (DPRK), North Korea\u2019s official name.<\/p>\n
The general meeting expressed concern over North Korea\u2019s continuously\ndeveloping nuclear capacity and urged Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear\nweapons programme \u201ccompletely, verifiably, and irreversibly,\u201d in\naccordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).<\/p>\n
The North Korean leader\u2019s sister dismissed these calls as \u201cmere\nnoise, not surprising, and nothing new.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo matter how persistently the IAEA and the West hold periodic\nmeetings and discuss denuclearisation based on pre-set scenarios, it\nwill have no impact on the determination and ability of the DPRK to take\nall necessary steps to defend the highest interests of the state,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that the DPRK\u2019s nuclear position has been permanently\nestablished, both physically and legally, cannot change in the\nslightest,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
