        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and\nRescue Sub-District Office (Sudin Gulkarmat) is enhancing the\ncapabilities and competencies of Firefighting Volunteers (Redkar) in\nPulau Untung Jawa village, South Thousand Islands sub-district.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis activity is part of the Redkar development programme to improve\ntheir ability to handle fires,\u201d said Head of Sector VIII of the South\nThousand Islands sub-district, Sumarno, in Jakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the activity aims to increase the capacity and\npreparedness of the community in facing potential fires in residential\nenvironments.<\/p>\n<p>He said that on the first day, Thursday (23\/4), they conducted fire\nprevention socialisation to 30 residents.<\/p>\n<p>Then, on Friday, it was continued with coaching for 30 Redkar\nvolunteers so that they have basic knowledge and skills in fire\nhandling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe presence of trained Redkar is expected to carry out initial fire\nhandling quickly, before officers arrive at the location,\u201d said\nSumarno.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Head of Pulau Untung Jawa village, Muslim, assessed\nthat the training was very beneficial in increasing community awareness\nand preparedness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly support this activity because it can equip residents\nwith practical knowledge in preventing and handling fires in their\nrespective environments,\u201d said Muslim.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Firefighting Volunteers, Andi (35), revealed that the\nmaterial provided in the training was very easy to understand and\napplicable.<\/p>\n<p>He also admitted to becoming more knowledgeable and understanding the\ninitial steps that must be taken when a fire occurs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, this knowledge can be applied to maintain the safety of\nthe environment,\u201d said Andi.<\/p>",
