While noteworthy North Bali charms can be found on land, it\u2019s fair to\nsay the region\u2019s biggest attraction can be found under the water.<\/p>\n
Bali is home to some pretty incredible marine tourism experiences. As\nan archipelago nation, Indonesia is one of the best destinations in the\nworld for ocean lovers. While Bali\u2019s best-known dive sites may be found\nover in Amed or off the shores of Nusa Penida, North Bali is perhaps the\nmost overlooked marine biodiversity hotspot in the province.<\/p>\n
Those familiar with North Bali will already be familiar with\ndestinations like Lovina Beach, the launch point for many sunrise\ndolphin-watching tours, or Pemuteran Village, which has won awards for\nits coral conservation efforts. Very few tourists have heard of Umeanyar\nVillage, and let us tell you now, you\u2019re going to want to add this\nemerging travel gem to your itinerary.<\/p>\n
Umeanyar Village in Buleleng Regency has just started developing\nitself as a nature, culture, and religion-based tourism village after\nbeing officially designated as a tourism village through a Decree (SK)\nby the Regent of Buleleng.<\/p>\n
This small community is sitting on so much potential, from underwater\ntourism, dolphin tours, to agrotourism and spiritual tourism.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters, the Head of Umeanyar Village, Putu Edy\nMulyana, said that one of the village\u2019s leading selling points lies in\nthe Purijati Dive Site diving area, known as the habitat of the mimic\noctopus, a rare species found only in certain locations in the\nworld.<\/p>\n
He explained, \u201cThis mimic octopus is only found in our area and in\nthe Bunaken area, Sulawesi. This is a very limited species.\u201d<\/p>\n
He explained how the presence of all this unique marine life is a\nspecial attraction for diving tourists and marine tourism enthusiasts.\nTo help maintain its sustainability, the village, together with\nenvironmental communities and community watchdog groups (Pokmaswas), has\ntaken a series of stringent conservation measures.<\/p>\n
In the specially designated diving area, boundary buoys have been\ninstalled to prevent disturbances to the activities of fishermen and\ntourists. The community has also built hexagon-shaped fish houses and\ninstalled underwater concrete structures to protect the coral reef area.\nMulyana added, \u201cWe have also sterilized the area from the practice of\nfishing using poison. Now it is much more protected.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is also possible for tourists visiting Umeanyar Village to\norganise sunrise dolphin watching tours with local boat operators, which\nhas become the picture-postcard of North Bali.<\/p>\n
The community not only wants to rely on marine tourism, but has also\nbegun developing agrotourism. Around 80 hectares of active agricultural\nland are planted with rice and secondary crops, including grape-picking\ntours that are starting to attract tourists.<\/p>\n
Tourists planning a trip to Umeanyar Village need not think about\neverything; the community has everything organized and is ready to\nreceive guests. The community now has around 34 villas and one\nthree-star hotel.<\/p>\n
The village government is currently developing an integrated tour\npackage with the Buleleng Regency Tourism Office and local tourism\nbusinesses, though independent travelers can easily arrange experiences\nhere.<\/p>\n
Visiting tourists will be invited to enjoy a full-day village\nexperience, ranging from dolphin watching and enjoying freshly caught\nseafood to witnessing the cultural activities of the village community.\nMulyana concluded, \u201cWe want the concept of this tourist village to\nremain natural, at one with nature and the community\u2019s culture.\u201d<\/p>\n
