        "content": "<p>Non-governmental organizations<\/p>\n<p>From Tempo<\/p>\n<p>I was moved to write this letter after reading the article<br>\n&quot;Appeal to the Indonesian non-governmental organizations&quot; (Tempo<br>\nJune 4, 1994) by Drg. Abraham Ilyas St. Marajo. According to<br>\nreports in various newspapers, there is an NGO activist who was<br>\nactively involved in supporting the holding of the recent Asia-<br>\nPacific Conference on East Timor (APCET) in Manila.<\/p>\n<p>I agree with Abraham who warned Indonesian NGOs not to fall<br>\ninto the trap of foreign activities that try to break Indonesia<br>\ninto fragments. To support the conference can be taken to mean<br>\nthat the NGO is siding with the Fretilin movement and opposes the<br>\nintegration of East Timor into Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The era of openness and globalization should not be misused<br>\nfor negative purposes which may harm the national stability and<br>\ndevelopment. We must learn from other countries which experience<br>\ncatastrophe as a result of prolonged civil war.<\/p>\n<p>WAHYONO<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
