The General Secretariat of the King Faisal Foundation has officially\nopened nominations for the 50th King Faisal Prize, to be held in 2028,\nacross five categories.<\/p>\n
In a written statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday,\nSecretary-General Abdulaziz Al-Sebail stated that each category features\na specific academic theme established annually. For the upcoming 2028\nawards, the Islamic Studies category will focus on the theme \u201cMuslim\nHeritage in Al-Andalus,\u201d while the Arabic Language and Literature\ncategory will present the theme \u201cArabic Literature from a Comparative\nStudy Perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the Medicine category will focus on \u201cRNA-based\nTherapies,\u201d and the Science category will highlight the theme of\n\u201cBiology.\u201d<\/p>\n
Al-Sebables explained that nominations can be submitted by\nuniversities, organisations, institutions, and scientific research\ncentres. The nomination period will run from 1 September 2026 until the\nend of March 2027. Nominations can be sent to the email address\nnominations@kingfaisalprize.org or via the online nomination portal at\nwww.kingfaisalprize.org\/nominations.<\/p>\n
The opening of these latest nominations follows the same procedure as\nthe 48th King Faisal Prize held in Riyadh in April 2026, under the\nsupport and patronage of King Salman.<\/p>\n
Among the recipients of the 2026 King Faisal Prize was Prof.\u00a0Svetlana\nMojsov in the Medicine category for her pioneering research on\nglucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Additionally, the award in the Science\ncategory was presented to Prof.\u00a0Carlos Kenig for his research on\nnon-linear partial differential equations and mathematical analysis,\nwith applications ranging from fluid mechanics to optical fibres and\nmedical imaging.<\/p>\n
In the Islamic Studies category, the award was given to Abdelhamid\nHussein Mahmoud Hammouda and Mohammed Waheeb Hussein for their research\non historical Islamic trade routes.
