No to corrupt leaders<\/p>\n
In the Nov. 16 issue of The Jakarta Post, several experts gave
\ntheir views regarding the state of our society, titled Indonesia
\nmentally ill. I suppose all sound members of our society agree
\nwith their opinions.<\/p>\n
In the book titled Productivity: The human side written by
\nRobert Blake and Jane Mouten, two of the world's most renowned
\nexperts in Behavioral Sciences, they describe how convergence
\n(auto-kinetic effect) influences the attitudes, opinions and
\nfeelings of people in social life. Consequently, the behavior of
\nsociety is strongly directed by their leaders.<\/p>\n
Who are the top leaders in our society? I hope we agree that
\nthe top leaders are: 1) state leaders (military and political),
\nand 2) religious leaders.<\/p>\n
If we are to be honest, we have to admit that during the last
\ntwo decades our top leaders have basically been concerned with
\ntwo things. The first is how to remain in power, and the second,
\nhow to accumulate and show off wealth.<\/p>\n
Both of these interests lead to acts of terrorism and
\ncorruption, as well as collusion and nepotistic practices, which
\ntend to erode our sense of humanity.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, our religious leaders have failed to counteract
\nthis kind of behavior, and heroes of humanity have never become
\nmodels for the power- and wealth-hungry people.<\/p>\n
It seems only time will tell when we will have leaders who
\ncare.<\/p>\n
