'No time limit for executions'<\/p>\n
PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: An intelligence affairs assistant to
\nthe attorney general, Patuan Siahaan, said in Palembang on
\nSaturday that there was no time limit set for the execution of
\nthose who had been sentenced to death.<\/p>\n
"Someone who is sentenced to death by the court can be
\nexecuted soon after his request for clemency has been rejected by
\nthe president," he said.<\/p>\n
Asked to comment on Jurit bin Abdullah, whose request for
\nclemency was rejected by President Megawati Soekarnoputri, Patuan
\nsaid his office would still give him the chance to seek other
\nlegal means to avoid execution.<\/p>\n
"We are giving Jurit and his family the chance to seek other
\npossible legal ways out because if he is executed, there will be
\nno more chances as it's impossible to bring the dead back to
\nlife," he said.<\/p>\n
Jurit was given the death sentence after being found guilty of
\nsadistically murdering a self-defense coach in 1997. --Antara<\/p>",
