No recall for Honda owners in Indonesia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Honda Prospect Motor of Indonesia will not follow
\nHonda Motor Co. in the United States and Canada in recalling five
\nHonda models.<\/p>\n
The North American division of Honda officially recalled
\nnearly 652,000 sedans, minivans and sport utility vehicles with
\nautomatic transmission systems because of a defect caused by
\nexcessive wear in the ignition switch.<\/p>\n
Taufik Hidayat, service manager with Honda Prospect Motor,
\nattributed this defect to driving habits in North America not
\nusually found in Indonesia. This habit involves the failure to
\npress in the ignition key prior to starting the engine.<\/p>\n
As a result, drivers are able to remove the key from the
\nignition when the vehicle is not in park, fooling them into
\nthinking the car is in park when it is not. The National Highway
\nSafety Administration in the U.S. recorded four injuries, 28
\ncrashes and 169 complaints related to the defect.<\/p>\n
In response, Honda has told drivers to utilize the parking
\nbrake until the company repairs the vehicles. The models being
\nrecalled are the 2002 CR-V, 1997-1999 Acura CL and the 1999 Acura
\nTL sedans, the 1999 Odyssey and the 1998-99 Accord sedan and
