        "content": "<p>No rabies case in Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The City Health Office head, Dr. Aslan Lasman,<br>\nsaid yesterday that there are no rabies patients in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The statements were made to The Jakarta Post in reference to a<br>\npreliminary report saying that more than 4,000 cases of rabies<br>\nwere detected in Jakarta over the last five years.<\/p>\n<p>Aslan said that more than 4,000 people had been bitten by<br>\nrabies-carrying animals such as dogs, cats and monkeys.<\/p>\n<p>\"Those suspected of having caught rabies from bites are<br>\ninjected with anti-rabies serum,\" Aslan said.<\/p>\n<p>He said rabies is a lethal disease, and proper and prompt<br>\ntreatment must be given to suspected patients.<\/p>\n<p>The city administration and the City Council had a plenary<br>\nsession last week to approve a bill on the control of rabies-<br>\ncarrying animals.<\/p>\n<p>The bill requires all rabies-carrying animals to be<br>\nvaccinated.
