No pressure from PDI-P: KPU<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The General Elections Commission (KPU) denied on
\nMonday allegations that the Indonesian Democratic Party of
\nStruggle (PDI-P) had pressured it to intervene in a row that
\ninvolved the ruling party's East Kalimantan chapter.<\/p>\n
"There was no such pressure... I will put my reputation on the
\nline if we conceded to pressure," KPU deputy chairman Ramlan
\nSurbakti said.<\/p>\n
He was referring to a meeting between the KPU, the East
\nKalimantan Provincial Elections Commission (KPUD) and local party
\nleaders over the weekend, at which the KPUD decided to revoke its
\nban against the party's contesting the provincial legislative
\nelection.<\/p>\n
The East Kalimantan KPUD had earlier dropped the PDI-P from
\nthe legislative election, as the party failed to submit its
\nrevised list of candidates by the Jan. 19 deadline, claiming
\ninternal conflicts.<\/p>\n
Ramlan said the KPU annulled the East Kalimantan KPUD's
\ndecision and accepted the PDI-P's original candidacy list, which
\nwas valid because it was signed by both the head and secretary-
\ngeneral of the party's East Kalimantan chapter.<\/p>\n
The secretary-general had earlier said he had never endorsed
\nthe list, which led to intra-party bickering. -- JP<\/p>",
