'No phones bugged at palace'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Presidential military secretary Maj. Gen. T.B.
\nHasanuddin denied on Tuesday reports suggesting that telephone
\nlines at the State Palace were bugged.<\/p>\n
\"There is no indication of phone bugging at the palace,\"
\nHasanuddin said during a hearing between State Secretary Bambang
\nKesowo and House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I for
\npolitical affairs here on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He was reacting to earlier news reports saying that some
\nforeign countries were tapping conversations between Megawati and
\nCoordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo
\nBambang Yudhoyono.<\/p>\n
According to Hasanuddin, his office and the State Code
\nInstitution (LSN) had installed 10 antibugging devices at the
\nState Palace.<\/p>\n
Although the devices are not the most advanced ones,
\nHasanuddin said, they were effective enough to secure the phone
\nlines.<\/p>\n
The two-star general said his staff routinely checked the
\ndevices.<\/p>\n
\"If you, legislators, are concerned about this condition,
\nplease allocate a bigger budget to increase the number of
\nantibugging devices,\" he added. -- JP<\/p>",
