The recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated Aceh and
\nclaimed hundreds of thousands of human lives have aroused great
\nnational concern and deep international sympathy, shown by many
\ncountries that have provided aid to relieve the victims'
\nsuffering.<\/p>\n
However, in the case of foreign assistance, many circles at
\nhome are suspicious that the presence of thousands of soldiers
\nindicates a likely political agenda.<\/p>\n
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, when inspecting the Air
\nForce relief command for Aceh and North Sumatra at Halim
\nPerdanakusuma airport, Jakarta, said the nation should not
\nsuspect the soldiers of friendly countries undertaking
\nhumanitarian missions in Aceh to assist in rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
Some media have even reported that nations in Europe and other
\nparts of the globe recently observed several minutes' silence in
\nhonor of the dead in Aceh, North Sumatra and other affected
\ncountries. This certainly reflects the world community's sense of
\nsolidarity.<\/p>\n
Therefore, we should also develop an attitude of mutual trust
\nwhile reducing and dispelling prejudice and suspicion. As
\nIndonesians, we should not be left behind in our move to provide
\nevery possible aid.<\/p>\n
