        "content": "<p>No more raids against 'becak'<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Raids against becak (three-wheeled pedicabs) had come<br>\nto an end, with the authorities having seized 11,405 pedicabs in<br>\nthe five mayoralties, head of the City Public Order Agency Firman<br>\nHutadjulu said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He told City Hall reporters that the pedicabs had been netted<br>\nduring operations conducted from Aug. 13 to Oct. 30.<\/p>\n<p>\"The operations ran smoothly and successfully,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The pedicabs confiscated during the operations are being<br>\nstored at a Cakung warehouse, before being tossed into the ocean,<br>\nwhere they will act as fish shelters.<\/p>\n<p>Many becak drivers resisted the raids. One civilian guard was<br>\nkilled when a crackdown on the pedicabs in West Jakarta turned<br>\nviolent.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of becak drivers even sued Governor Sutiyoso for<br>\nbanning them from operating in the city. The trial was scheduled<br>\nto begin on Thursday, but was adjourned because the respondent's<br>\nlawyer failed to present the letter of attorney. --JP<\/p>",
