No more lavish receptions<\/p>\n
President Soeharto has once again reminded all of us,
\nparticularly our provincial authorities, that there is no need to
\nbe excessive or extravagant when receiving visiting dignitaries.
\nBy not indulging in such excesses the misuse of funds, meant for
\nthe improvement of the public welfare, can be avoided.<\/p>\n
This mentality of offering excessive courtesies to officials
\nmust be corrected, as President Soeharto said, because our
\ndevelopment efforts are not designed to please officials but to
\nserve the people in general.<\/p>\n
Visiting officials whose status are higher than that of those
\nthey are visiting should act as role models and not merely as
\nfurnishers of facilities. Therefore, when receiving visiting
\ndignitaries and their entourages, there is no need for local
\nofficials and the local people to be extravagant in serving
\nrefreshments and presenting local dances to their guests and in
\npresenting them with gifts.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, those visiting dignitaries are traveling on
\nexpense accounts and do not need to burden the local authorities
\nand people.<\/p>\n
