This newspaper in its June 11 edition reported head of
\nsecondary and tertiary education service of Jakarta as saying
\nthat government schools were free to collect money when receiving
\nnew students.<\/p>\n
In this context, several points should be considered:
\n* Entrance tests for government schools are no longer necessary
\nbecause the places are given only to those who can afford them.
\n* Some tests are still necessary to choose academically superior
\nstudents, but the tests can be taken only by those already paying
\nschool fees.
\n* There will be no schooling for students who are bright but
\npoor.
\n* There should no longer be any classification of government and
\nprivate schools. Everything will be left to the educational
\ninstitutions concerned and the financial capacity of the students
\nand their parents.
\n* As a consequence, the national education ministry must be
\ndisbanded as it no longer has anything to do.<\/p>\n
