No mercy for demonstrators<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The military forces will take stern actions
\nagainst anybody staging demonstrations in the city during the
\n40th anniversary commemoration of the historic Asia-Africa
\nconference in Bandung, West Java, a high-ranking official said
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
Chief of the Jakarta Military Command Maj. Gen. Wiranto warned
\nyesterday: \"We will not tolerate those who want to humiliate the
\ncountry in front of the delegates of the meeting.\"<\/p>\n
The ceremony on Sunday will be attended by President Soeharto,
\nUN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali and ministers from the
\n111-member Non-Aligned Movement.<\/p>\n
\"We have to safeguard the activities of our country's guests
\nduring their visit here from any types of disturbances,\" Wiranto
\nwas quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
Wiranto made the statement at the induction of Lt. Col. Liliek
\nAchmad Saroyo as the new commander of the West Jakarta military
\ndistrict, replacing Lt. Col. I.P. Sisworo.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Wiranto said that because West Jakarta is a
\nbusy financial area in the city, it will also invite various
\nsocial problems and criminal activity.<\/p>\n
\"This condition needs more attention and a special effort is
\nneeded to control this region,\" Wiranto added.(yns)<\/p>",
