The Indonesian government has agreed in principle to raise the retail price ceiling (HET) for the subsidised cooking oil brand Minyakita. The final amount and implementation date remain undecided, pending more stable crude palm oil (CPO) prices. A decision could come within one to two weeks if raw material costs normalise.

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has officially agreed on a
plan to raise the Highest Retail Price (HET) for Minyakita. However, the
amount of the increase and the timing of its implementation are still
awaiting developments in the price of crude palm oil (CPO), which is
considered to remain volatile.

Trade Minister Budi Santoso announced that the decision to raise
Minyakita’s HET was the result of further discussions across ministries
and agencies, including a previous meeting at the Coordinating Ministry
for Food.

“Following up on the previous meeting at the Coordinating Ministry
for Food’s office, today we agreed to raise the highest retail price
(HET) for Minyakita,” Budi said during a press conference at his office
in Jakarta on Thursday (4/6/2026).

Nonetheless, the government has not yet determined the exact figure
for the HET increase, nor its effective date. “Indeed, the price has not
been agreed upon, and the timing for its determination has also not been
decided,” he stated.

Budi said the government is still monitoring the movement of CPO
prices, one of the main factors in determining Minyakita’s price. The
commodity had previously risen before falling again and is now showing
an upward trend once more.

“Why? Because we want to see how CPO prices develop,” he explained.
“Indeed, CPO prices rose, averaging Rp15,445 per kg recently,” he
noted.

Following that, however, the price experienced a correction. “But it
had recently fallen again to around Rp14,000 per kg, and the price of
fresh fruit bunches (FFB) had dropped, but now it has started to rise
again,” Budi continued.

Because of this, the government has chosen to wait until the raw
material price for cooking oil is more stable before determining the
size of the Minyakita HET increase. “So we will monitor until the price
is stable, after which we will decide the figure for the highest retail
price increase for Minyakita,” he said.

Although there is no official figure yet, the government signalled
that a price adjustment could be made in the near future, if market
conditions are deemed conducive. “Yes, so earlier we agreed on that.
Perhaps within one to two weeks, we can make an adjustment if the price
of CPO is relatively normal,” he concluded.

For information, the current Minyakita HET remains priced under the
previous regulation, which is Rp15,700 per litre.
",
