\nmalpractice<\/p>\n
Hospitals and doctors guilty of malpractice must be answerable
\nto their patients, head of the Indonesian Police Force Physicians
\nand Health Board, Brig. Gen. Hendro Satmoko, said here yesterday.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the 28th anniversary of the Kramat Jati Police
\nHospital in East Jakarta, Hendro said, "even though most cases of
\nmalpractice occur by accident, the hospital or doctor in charge
\nshould still be held accountable."<\/p>\n
He explained that in this era of globalization, the doctor-
\npatient relationship is no longer paternalistic, where curative
\nmeasures are at the complete discretion of the doctor.<\/p>\n
People are now more consciousness towards health matters and
\ndemand better care from hospitals, he asserted.<\/p>\n
Hendro further added that the police hospital must prepare
\nitself to deal with the various new forms of infractions brought
\nas a result of technological developments and globalization.<\/p>\n
At the celebration, Hendro awarded the Narraya medal to five
\nmedical officers for their 24 years of service. (mds)<\/p>\n
No arrests during
\nbadminton matches<\/p>\n
Police made no arrests during the recently completed 12-day
\nworld men's and women's badminton championships, surprising
\nconsidering the unruly displays of behavior at Saturday's Thomas
\nCup final.<\/p>\n
Overzealous supporters of the Indonesian team got carried away
\nwith themselves and threw plastic bottles at the Malaysian
\nplayers and officials in the closing minutes of the third match.<\/p>\n
"Thank God nobody was arrested," City Police spokesman Lt.
\nCol. A. Latief Rabar told reporters yesterday.<\/p>\n
"We couldn't identify the people who threw the bottles amid
\nsuch mayhem," Latief quoted Col. Muhantojo, an official assigned
\nto maintain security at the event, as saying.<\/p>\n
A total of 400 city police officers and military personnel
\nwere assigned to lend a semblance of law and order at badminton's
\nmost prestigious team competition.<\/p>\n
The organizers estimated that over 12,000 spectators were on
\nhand for Saturday's match, well over the 9,500 seat capacity.

Girl missing
\nfor two months<\/p>\n
A 14-year-old girl from a remote village in Demak, Central
\nJava, has been reported missing here for nearly two months.<\/p>\n
Jumiaty, who has black straight hair, reportedly arrived at
\nthe Pulo Gadung bus terminal in East Jakarta at around 4 p.m. on
\nMarch 26. She was supposed to go to her relative's house in
\nBogor, but never got there.<\/p>\n
"She was wearing a red T-shirt and dark-colored trousers,"
\nSumeri, a relative of the girl, said here yesterday.<\/p>\n
He quoted several witnesses at the terminal as saying that
\nthey saw such a girl riding an ojek (motorcycle taxi) during the
\nevening. However, that was the extent of their information.<\/p>\n
Sumeri said that Jumiaty's parents in Demak had told him that
\nshe was planning to work as a housemaid here.<\/p>\n
He urged anyone who might have seen Jumiaty to report to the
\npolice or to him personally at the Police Mobile Brigade housing
\ncomplex in Kelapa Dua, Cimanggis, Bogor.<\/p>\n
According to Sumeri, Jumiaty had visited his house once
\nbefore.<\/p>\n
