No clues in Semarang bombing, say police<\/p>\n
SEMARANG (JP): Police have yet to find any clues in the recent
\nbombing at Christ Alfa Omega Tabernakel Bethel Church in
\nSemarang, which injured two women on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. M.A. Erwin MAP said on
\nWednesday that the bombing was still a mystery. \"However, people
\nmust remain calm, and trust the police,\" he told Antara.<\/p>\n
Some witnesses, including the pastor, the church parking lot
\nattendant and security guards, have been questioned, but the
\npolice said they were still in the dark.<\/p>\n
Susana Hilda Riyanti, 50, the wife of the pastor, Timotius
\nSubekti, suffered serious injuries to her legs, while her
\n30-year-old daughter, Ferra, was only slightly injured when the
\nbomb exploded in their Toyota Kijang van in the church parking
\nlot.<\/p>\n
Doctors at Tlogorejo Hospital in Semarang have amputated her
\nright leg due to the severity of her wounds.<\/p>\n
One member of the medical team, Dr. Suhardiyono, said she was
\nrecovering. \"She is out of the critical stage. She will be fine
\nand will be taken to Singapore for final treatment.\"<\/p>\n
According to a preliminary investigation, the bomb was a
\nhomemade low explosive, officer Erwin said.<\/p>\n
\"All evidence collected from the bomb site, including the
\nfragments of batteries, are still being examined at the
\nlaboratory. Therefore, I cannot yet confirm anything about it.\"<\/p>\n
In a related development, Central Java (Diponegoro) Military
\nCommand chief Maj. Gen. Sumarsono said that the bombing had
\ndisturbed the tranquility of Central Java.<\/p>\n
\"Acts of terror at houses of worship usually works. Therefore
\nI call on all people to remain calm and to be alert,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Erwin Sumarsono, Central Java Governor Mardiyanto and
\nprovincial legislators from the National Mandate Party (PAN) and
\nNational Awakening Party (PKB) -- both Islamic-based parties --
\nvisited Susana in the hospital.<\/p>\n
They all condemned the bombing.<\/p>\n
Chief of Commission E at the provincial legislative council
\nAbdul Kadir Karding said from the hospital on Wednesday that the
\nbombing was carried out by a certain organization. \"Their target
\nis to spread hatred among religious followers,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"The commission will soon summon the provincial police chief
\nand Semarang Police chief to discuss ways on handling and
