        "content": "<p>Ninjas enter court in Dili<\/p>\n<p>DILI, East Timor: The district court opened the trial of 10<br>\npeople charged with vandalizing residential property and waging<br>\nterror campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>The accused, mostly gang members, swarmed the streets of Dili<br>\nearlier this year terrorizing pro-independence sympathizers.<br>\nTownspeople nicknamed them \"ninja\" because they wore black hoods<br>\nand masks during their raids.<\/p>\n<p>But the local military authorities dismissed the widely<br>\nreported \"ninja\" scare as \"rumor\" spread to discredit the<br>\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors charged in separate sessions yesterday that the<br>\ndefendants spread the ninja rumors, vandalized vehicles, pelted<br>\nstones at houses and disturbed security.<\/p>\n<p>Court officials told journalists that the men are facing<br>\ncriminal charges and that no political motives were involved.<br>\n(yac)<\/p>",
