Nine West Java legislators sworn in<\/p>\n

West Java provincial legislative council chairman Eka Santosa has
\nsworn in nine new council members to replace those who retired
\nand others who had been transferred to the Banten legislature
\nfollowing the formation of Banten province last January.<\/p>\n
The inauguration was conducted in the provincial legislature's
\nplenary session here on Monday.<\/p>\n
Seven legislators replaced those who were transferred to
\nBanten while the remaining two succeeded two military
\nrepresentatives who have reached their mandatory pension age of
\n55.<\/p>\n
The new legislators are: Tatang Asranul Hakim, Yusuf Ridwan,
\nMochamad Sufki Ma'mun and Syafrudin, all from the United
\nDevelopment Party (PPP); Tatang Hendir, Muhammad and Qudrat, from
\nthe Golkar Party; Rachmat Kurni of the National Mandate Party
\n(PAN) and Army Col. Sutisna Kamadipura and Lt. Col. Hermansyah.<\/p>\n
So far, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI
\nPerjuangan) and the Crescent Star Party (PBB) have yet to name
\ntheir candidates to fill the nine remaining seats due to
\nadministrative problems and internal conflicts.<\/p>\n
Eka called on the two parties to submit their candidates'
\nnames immediately to allow the legislature to complete its agenda
\nthis year.<\/p>\n
\"The deliberation of many draft laws could not be completed
\nbecause of the 18 vacant seats over the last three months,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The local chapter of PDI Perjuangan has been divided by a
\nserious internal row over who should be nominated to replace its
\nlegislators.<\/p>\n
Eka called on the existing 91 members to get ready to
\ndeliberate the province's 2002 draft budget that would be
\nsubmitted by the governor to the legislative council in the near
\nfuture.<\/p>\n
Daud Gunawan, a member of the legislature's Commission B on
\neconomic affairs, said his commission had canceled a number of
\ndecisions because of the eight vacant seats.<\/p>\n
\"The commission's agenda has been disturbed following the
\ntransfer of eight commission members to Banten province and we
\nare running short of colleagues to discuss numerous problems,\"
\nDaud Gunawan said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Rudi Harsa Tanaya, chairman of the PDI Perjuangan faction,
\nsaid his faction had lost eight seats and it had affected the
\nfaction's performance.<\/p>\n
\"Of the remaining 22 members, not all of them are active as
\nsome have been assigned to several special committees,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Rudi admitted the local chapter of the PDI Perjuangan was a
\nbit late in proposing names to fill the vacant seats following
\nthe recent death of a PDI Perjuangan legislator.<\/p>",
