Nine sportsmen abducted in Aceh<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH: After participating in the Aceh provincial sports
\nweek in Sigli, nine athletes and officials from the Aceh Singkil
\nregency were reportedly abducted by a group of unidentified armed
\nmen in Peureulak, East Aceh regency, Antara reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The military operation command spokesman in Lhokseumawe, Maj.
\nZaenal Mutaqin, confirmed the incident.<\/p>\n
\"I have received a report that the nine athletes and officials
\nfrom Aceh Singkil were abducted by armed civilians on Wednesday
\nafternoon, as they were returning home after taking part in the
\nsports event in Sigli,\" Mutaqin said.<\/p>\n
\"We became aware of the abductions when the driver of the car
\ncarrying the abducted people reported the incident to a security
\npost,\" he said.<\/p>\n
According to the driver, identified as Sofyan Thaib, the car
\nhe was driving was intercepted by about 20 armed men in the area
\nof Peureulak.<\/p>\n
Sofyan was ordered out of the car and then his mouth was taped
\nshut. The armed men then drove away in the car, with the nine
\nathletes and officials.<\/p>\n
The fate of the nine men remains unknown, but security
\npersonnel are tracking their whereabouts.<\/p>\n
Zaenal hinted that the armed civilians were possibly rebels
