        "content": "<p>Nine RI boats caught in Australian waters<\/p>\n<p>AUSTRALIA: Nine Indonesian fishing boats were intercepted while<br>\npoaching fish from Australia's northern waters, the government<br>\nsaid on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Fisheries and customs authorities combined forces with the air<br>\nforce and navy to apprehend the vessels off Australia's northern<br>\ncoast over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\"The government is committed to ensuring that Australia's<br>\nvaluable fishing resources are protected from these poachers,\"<br>\nfisheries and conservation minister Ian MacDonald said in a<br>\nstatement.<\/p>\n<p>MacDonald said three of the vessels attempted to speed into<br>\nIndonesian waters before they were apprehended. All nine had<br>\nnavigational equipment and charts, which suggested the crews knew<br>\nthey were illegally fishing in Australian waters, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Eight of the vessels were transported to the Northern<br>\nTerritory ports of Darwin and Gove, and the ninth was destroyed<br>\nat sea due to safety concerns for its crew, who were transported<br>\nto shore on a navy ship. --AP<\/p>",
