        "content": "<p>Nine people competing for HIPMI top post<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): There are expected to be at least nine<br>\ncandidates for the chairmanship of the Association of Young<br>\nBusinessmen (HIPMI) at the association&apos;s national congress next<br>\nweek.<\/p>\n<p>The candidates include Fadjraa Oemar, an executive of a<br>\nproperty company; Eddy Kuntandi, the chairman of the<br>\nassociation&apos;s Jakarta chapter; Bambang Wiyogo, the son of the<br>\nformer governor of Jakarta; and Indah Wasono, a Jakarta-based<br>\nbusinesswoman.<\/p>\n<p>Other candidates are Reza Kamarullah, Sutrisno Bahir, both<br>\nJakarta-based businessmen, Fauzi Usman of North Sumatra, Adi<br>\nTjakra of West Java and I Ketut Swardana of Bali.<\/p>\n<p>The winning candidate will replace Adi Taher, the son of the<br>\nformer Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Achmad<br>\nTaher, whose three-year term ends this month.<\/p>\n<p>The association, which is comprised mainly of young<br>\nbusinessmen from the elite circle of children of former<br>\nministers, retired generals and top businessmen, is often<br>\ncriticized as lacking business professionalism.<\/p>\n<p>The association&apos;s members have also been criticized for being<br>\ntoo dependent on the government&apos;s facilities in running their<br>\nbusinesses.<\/p>\n<p>Fadjraa, one of the candidates, acknowledged Thursday that the<br>\nassociation had a bad image and promised to improve the<br>\nprofessionalism of the association&apos;s members if he is elected.<\/p>\n<p>His other policies include the expansion of the organization&apos;s<br>\nmembership to young businessmen in the provinces, who account for<br>\nmore than 75 percent of Indonesia&apos;s young businessmen.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The program should be directed towards the improvement of the<br>\nbusiness skills of young businessmen, rather than discussing how<br>\nto get facilities from the government,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Other important programs, he said, were extending the access<br>\nof small-scale companies to the banking industry and helping to<br>\nstop unfair practices during the bidding for government-financed<br>\nprojects.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The collusion between government officials and certain groups<br>\nof businessmen should be stopped so that all businessmen get fair<br>\ntreatment,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Like Fadjraa, other candidates are also campaigning in Jakarta<br>\nand in other major cities.
