Nimmala temple to host 'Cioko'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Thousands of Buddhists, Taoists and Confucianists
\nfrom Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan islands have gathered at the
\nNimmala temple in Jl. Pasar Baru, Tangerang, over the last few
\ndays in anticipation of Saturday's Cioko (fighting over food)
\nceremony, with a prayer being held at 12 noon.<\/p>\n
The prayer will be followed by the burning of a seven-meter-
\nhigh Bun Tai Sui (king of the devil) and 12-meter-long dragon
\nboat effigy. It is hoped that the offerings will bring security
\nand prosperity to the world.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the organizing committee Tjoa Tjoan Kim said that
\nthe ceremony would be preceded over by suhu (teacher) Xue Yuan.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, the organizers will distribute 33 tons of rice and
\ninstant noodles to poor people around the city. Free medical
\nservice will also be available at the Nimmala clinics, next to
\nthe temple.<\/p>\n
Nimmala temple, built in 1689, is credited at the Indonesian
\nRecords Museum (MURI) for 10 records related to such ceremonies.

BOGOR: Police seized at least 16,000 pirated compact discs
\n(CD) and video compact discs (VCD) from a number of shops and
\nstreet traders on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
Bogor Police deputy chief First Insp. Djadjang Nurdjaman said
\non Friday that the CDs\/VCDs had been seized from 16 traders at
\nMal Jambu Dua, Shangrilla Sukasari, Hero Padjajaran, Pasar Anyar
\nand Taman Topi.<\/p>\n
The traders admitted that the CDs\/VCDs were bought in Glodok,
\nWest Jakarta, for between Rp 2,000 (24 U.S. cents) and Rp 4,000
\neach and were sold in Bogor for between Rp 5,000 and Rp 7,000

BEKASI: Police arrested on Thursday evening a man at his house
\non Jl. Makam, Kampung Kranji in West Bekasi for selling shabu-
\nshabu (crystal methamphetamine).<\/p>\n
Police arrested Agus Arief, 25, and seized four packages of
\nthe drug after neighbors informed on the man, Bekasi Police chief
\ndetective Adj. Comr. Rasino said Friday.<\/p>\n
Rasino said police were now searching for Arief's accomplices

Ancol to hold ride competition<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Fantasy World (Dufan) will stage the Highest Points
\nin Rides competition for visitors from Aug. 23 to Aug. 30.<\/p>\n
The event, which is being held to commemorate the 18th
\nanniversary of the amusement park in Ancol, North Jakarta, will
\noffer prizes which include a motorcycle, two flat screen
\ntelevisions, DVD players and bicycles.<\/p>\n
Beritajakarta.com reported that visitors who buy all access
\ntickets will have a scoring chart to record their points during
\nthe competition.<\/p>\n
The rides include the Arung Jeram (water rafting) for 1,000
\npoints, Simulator Wings theater for 1,000 points, Kora-Kora boat
\nride for 500 points and the Halilintar roller coaster for 500
\npoints.<\/p>\n
The scorecards will be put into a box at the exit gates of the
\npark.<\/p>\n
The winners will be announced in mid September in Media

High winds damage terminal<\/p>\n
BOGOR: High winds blew the roof of the Bubulak public minivan
\nterminal, injuring two people and damaging eight minivans.<\/p>\n
The terminal's director Prihatno said that the high winds
\nstarted blowing from the west at about 5 p.m. on Thursday. Heavy
\nrain had been falling since 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
Dozens of passengers who were taking shelter in the terminal
\nfrom the rain fled in panic when they saw that the roof was
\nbeginning to lift of its stays.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the incident, Bogor councillor Berlin Haryanto
\nPurba said it was due to the shoddy construction of the terminal,
\nand demanded that the builder of the terminal be held
