Nightspots closed on Heroes Day<\/p>\n
SURABAYA: As part of efforts to respect National Heroes Day that
\nfalls on Thursday, the Surabaya city government has banned
\nnightspots from operating for two days starting on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The nightspots will be allowed to reopen on Friday.<\/p>\n
The decree came after a meeting between city government
\nofficials and nightspot owners few days ago.<\/p>\n
\"We are thinking of revoking operational licenses of those
\nnightspots that violate the decree,\" said spokesman for the
\nSurabaya administration, Juli Subijanto.<\/p>\n
National Heroes Day has been commemorated annually since the
\nbloody event in Surabaya on Nov. 10, 1945, when independence
\nfighters counter-attacked the British military, who had been
\nacting on behalf of the Dutch colonial power. While technically a
\nvictory for the colonists, it showed to the world that
\nIndonesians were ready to fight and die for their independence.
