        "content": "<p>The Jakarta Provincial Government has issued regulations governing\nthe operation of nightlife entertainment venues during the month of\nRamadan. Nightlife establishments such as nightclubs and discotheques\nare required to close during the fasting month.<\/p>\n<p>The regulations are set out in Announcement Number e-0038\/PW.01.02 of\n2026 concerning the Operation of Tourism Businesses during the Holy\nMonth of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1447 H\/2026 M. The announcement was\nissued by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf)\non 13 February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement stipulates that certain categories of tourism\nbusinesses must close from one day before Ramadan until one day after\nthe second day of Eid al-Fitr. The business types covered include\nnightclubs, discotheques, steam baths, massage parlours, manual,\nmechanical and electronic amusement arcades for adults, as well as bars\nor drinking establishments, whether standalone or forming part of an\nentertainment venue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis regulation is not merely a restriction, but rather a\nproportional adjustment to ensure business activities continue whilst\nrespecting the religious values of the community,\u201d said Andhika Permata,\nHead of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, in a statement\non Wednesday (18 February 2026).<\/p>\n<p>However, exceptions apply for businesses located in four- and\nfive-star hotels and certain designated commercial zones. Establishments\nin these locations may open during specified operating hours, provided\nthey are not situated in proximity to residential areas, places of\nworship, schools, or hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>For businesses permitted to operate, operating hours are regulated\nspecifically. For instance, nightclubs and discotheques may operate\nbetween 20:30 and 01:30 Western Indonesian Time, whilst other businesses\nare subject to different closing times as specified in the announcement.\nIn addition to operating hour restrictions, business operators are\nrequired to carry out a closing of accounts or closed bill one hour\nbefore the operational time limit expires.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement also reaffirms prohibitions on displaying\npornographic, sexually provocative, or erotic content, providing\ngambling or narcotics, and causing disturbance to the surrounding\nenvironment. Business operators are instructed to maintain a conducive\natmosphere during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr and to ensure that employees\nand visitors are dressed appropriately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough this policy, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes the\ntourism sector will continue to grow in a healthy and sustainable\nmanner, in line with the values of tolerance, orderliness, and social\nharmony that characterise Jakarta as a global city and national centre\nof activity,\u201d he added.<\/p>",
