Nigerian arrested for forged bills<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A Nigerian carrying counterfeit U.S. dollars was
\narrested Thursday by customs and excise officials as he tried to
\nenter the country through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport,
\nan official said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The Nigerian, identified as Adekuneimakinde Alaniyan, 23,
\narrived here with a tourist visa on Emirates flight EK-076 which
\nserves Dubai, Singapore and Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Alaniyan had bogus dollar bills, amounting to $2,000 (Rp 4.7
\nmillion) in his pocket when he was arrested, the official said.<\/p>\n
Alaniyan had two Nigerian passports under different names.
\nAlaniyan was the name on the passport with identification number
\nB766264, the official said, adding the Nigerian's movements had
\nbeen monitored from when he disembarked from the aircraft.<\/p>\n
"Police and customs officials have been closely watching
\narrivals from Nigeria, South Africa and South America, where
\ndrug smuggling, crime syndicates and fraud are rampant," police
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Suspecting Alaniyan's movements, customs officials frisked him
\nand found 20 bogus $100-bills in his wallet. Tests on the
\nauthenticity of the bills were conducted at the airport, police
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The airport police precinct questioned Alaniyan and sent him
\nto City Police headquarters yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Chief of the City Police Detectives, Col. Paimin Aboeamr,
\nconfirmed yesterday that Alaniyan had been arrested for
\npossessing counterfeit money.<\/p>\n
"We have put the suspect in detention for illegal possession
\nof bogus dollars and we will proceed with our investigation, "
