Jakarta (ANTARA) - Paralympic powerlifter Ni Nengah Widiasih is\npursuing a culinary business in her hometown in Bali thanks to the bonus\nshe received from the government.<\/p>\n
According to an official release from the Kemenpora Public Relations\nOffice on Friday, Ni Nengah officially opened the Babi Guling Balah Men\nBingin eatery in the Kesiman area of Denpasar on Tuesday, 17 February\n2026.<\/p>\n
Ni Nengah stated that the business stems from her family\u2019s background\nin cooking, particularly her father, who is renowned for his skill in\npreparing Balinese cuisine and babi guling.<\/p>\n
According to Ni Nengah, the government\u2019s attention to athletes has\nnow changed and is extraordinary, thanks to the bonuses provided by the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
The two-time Paralympic medallist is expanding her endeavours from\nthe weightlifting arena to the world of culinary business as a step to\nprepare for the future while also creating job opportunities for the\ncommunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy family is indeed skilled at cooking, especially my father. So why\nnot develop it? At the same time, so that my father has something to\nkeep him occupied after my mother passed away,\u201d said Ni Nengah.<\/p>\n
The plan to start a business had long been a desire. However, the\nsearch for a location was only pursued seriously at the end of 2024.\nAfter several times feeling that the available places were not suitable,\nthe right location was obtained at the end of 2025, when she began to\nresign herself and stop the search.<\/p>\n
This business is her first venture together with her older sibling.\nNi Nengah admits that the culinary world is far different from the\nsports world or property investments that she previously knew better.\nShe only realised the complexity of managing a restaurant after getting\ndirectly involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt turns out it\u2019s not as easy as imagined. Behind one dish, there\nare many processes and people involved,\u201d Ni Nengah revealed.<\/p>\n
As an athlete who has recorded international achievements\u2014a bronze\nmedal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, silver at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics,\nand fifth place at the Paris 2024 Paralympics\u2014Ni Nengah realises that an\nathletic career has a time limit. Therefore, this culinary business is\none of her long-term preparations.<\/p>\n
\u201cAthletes can\u2019t do it forever. This is one of my retirement\npreparations. At least, I already have a business and can create jobs,\u201d\nshe said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to succeed alone. If we\u2019re given more sustenance, don\u2019t\nkeep it to yourself. Having just one or two employees is already very\nmeaningful,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
The name Men Bingin, given to her restaurant, is taken from her late\nmother\u2019s family name as a form of respect.<\/p>\n
