NGOs want probe on Jambi governor<\/p>\n
JAMBI: A number of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
\ncalled on Monday for the Jambi Prosecutor's Office to seriously
\nprobe the alleged graft case involving Zulkifli Nurdin, the
\nformer governor of Jambi province during the 1999-2004 period.<\/p>\n
The total amount of funds, Rp 120 billion (US$13.3 million),
\nwas derived from the state and provincial budgets for a number of
\ndevelopment projects in the province.<\/p>\n
Field coordinator of the protesting group, Kemas Firdaus, said
\nduring Zulkifli's administration, a large number of projects were
\nbeing implemented, such as renovations on the governor's office
\nand Jambi legislative building, the Tembesi-Sarolangun road
\nrestoration, land swap for building a school for the handicap,
\nconstruction of Jambi mess in Jakarta and the construction of
\nBatanghari II and Makalam bridges.<\/p>\n
\"We see this as corruption ... because every project tender is
\nwon by his cronies. We demand that the projects be audited,\" said
\nKemas.<\/p>\n
They have forwarded their protest to the Corruption
\nEradication Commission (KPK) to immediately investigate the case.
