Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital,\nNezar Patria, stated that affordable internet costs could expand the use\nof digital technology across all levels of society and serve as a new\ndriver to accelerate national digital economic growth. \u201cIf internet\naccess becomes affordable and penetration reaches all sectors of\nsociety, the results for the digital economy will be much more\npowerful,\u201d Nezar said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to Nezar, current internet costs in Indonesia are still\nconsidered expensive, even exceeding the standards set by the\nInternational Telecommunication Union (ITU), which suggests that the\ninternet basket should ideally represent 2 per cent of the total GDP per\ncapita.<\/p>\n
In addition to expanding internet access, the government is\ncontinuously working to bridge the digital divide across various regions\nthrough the development of telecommunications infrastructure. This\nincludes fibre optic networks, Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), and the\nutilisation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to reach areas difficult\nto serve via terrestrial networks.<\/p>\n
He noted that the most important aspect is ensuring that connectivity\nprovides tangible benefits to people\u2019s lives. \u201cMeaningful connectivity\nimpacts social, economic, and cultural activities. That is why the\nMinistry of Communication and Digital is currently focusing on talent\ndevelopment,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
