Newbridge Asia takes over AMT<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Private equity company Newbridge Asia announced
\non Monday that it had signed an agreement to acquire 100 percent
\nof the shares of PT Astra Microtronics Technology (AMT), a
\nsubsidiary of publicly listed PT Astra International and PT Astra
\nGraphia, for US$90 million.<\/p>\n
Newbridge Capital Southeast Asia managing director Bien Kiat
\nTan said that Newbridge's investment reflected the company's
\nconfidence in Indonesia's economy and the country's long-term
\ngrowth prospects.<\/p>\n
\"Despite the current downturn in the semiconductor industry,
\nwe are very excited about the long-term growth prospects of AMT,\"
\nTan said.<\/p>\n
\"AMT's Indonesian employees have demonstrated their ability to
\nproduce world-class products in the high-technology field of
\nsemiconductor manufacturing.\"<\/p>\n
He cited that AMT's strong management team and workforce of
\n3,600 highly-trained employees and Newbridge's capital backing as
\nkey strengths to enable the company to continue expanding
\naggressively.<\/p>\n
Based in Pleasanton, California, and Batam Island, AMT claims
\nto be one of the world's leading providers of subcontract
\nassembly and test services to the global semiconductor industry.<\/p>\n
AMT Indonesia was established in 1991.<\/p>\n
The export-oriented company produces semiconductor products on
\na subcontractor basis in the fields of integrated circuit
\nassembly and final test services.<\/p>\n
AMT's revenues have grown about 30 percent over the last three
\nyears and are on track for a similar record this year.<\/p>\n
AMT's customer base includes large integrated circuit
\nmanufacturers and its sales revenues are denominated entirely in
\nU.S dollars.<\/p>\n
Newbridge is an emerging markets equity firm backed by two
\nwell-known U.S investment groups, Texas Pacific Group and Richard
\nC. Blum and Associates (RCBA).<\/p>\n
It currently manages approximately $800 million of investment
\nSoutheast Asian, North Asia, Latin America and the Andean Region.
