        "content": "<p>New visa rules half Filipino artists<\/p>\n<p>MANILA: The deployment of Filipino entertainers to Japan has<br>\nfallen by almost 50 percent after Tokyo implemented tighter<br>\nimmigration rules, Philippine labor officials said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Philippine Overseas Employment<br>\nAdministration, only 2,771 Filipino entertainers left for Japan<br>\nin March, or 48 percent lower from 5,372 in February.<\/p>\n<p>The March deployment figure was also 59 percent lower than<br>\n6,787 in the same month last year.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo Langomez, president of the Philippine Association of<br>\nRecruitment Agencies Deploying Artists, said the decline was a<br>\nresult of the new immigration policy aimed at curbing human<br>\ntrafficking.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Since the March 15 implementation of the new regulations,<br>\nFilipino entertainers had been rejected in bulk even if they<br>\npresented certificates of eligibility as required,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Langomez urged Philippine officials to continue appeals for an<br>\neasing of the new policy, which no longer recognizes<br>\ncertifications of foreign governments on applicants&apos;<br>\nqualifications.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Tokyo requires applicants to have at least two years<br>\nof performance experience outside Japan before they could be<br>\nallowed to work there.<\/p>\n<p>At least 80,000 Filipinos apply to work as entertainers in<br>\nJapan every year. -- DPA<\/p>",
