New toll gates worsen traffic congestion<\/p>\n
The newly opened toll gates at Jl. RC Veteran, Bintaro, South
\nJakarta have apparently created new problems, instead of helping
\nto ease traffic flow. Motorists complain about worsening traffic
\ncongestion in the area.<\/p>\n
The facts show that cooperation between toll road operator PT
\nJasa Marga and the City Transportation Agency has been
\nnonexistent.<\/p>\n
It seems that the agency has failed to anticipate the
\nsituation that would exist after the new toll opening.<\/p>\n
The absence of traffic signs prohibiting drivers from parking
\nalong Jl. RC Veteran Raya could be cited as an example of the
\ntransportation agency's ignorance of traffic flow after the new
\ntoll gates were opened.<\/p>\n
Roadside vendors also still occupy the margins of Jl. RC
\nVeteran from afternoon until night.<\/p>\n
The number of vehicles entering the area has increased due to
\nthe opening of the toll gates, making the already-crowded roads
\nmore congested. Motorists passing through traffic light-
\ncontrolled intersectons also worsens the situation.<\/p>\n
We are of the opinion that Jasa Marga has done its job well;
\nunfortunately the transportation agency has failed to support
\nJasa Marga to produce smooth and flowing traffic.<\/p>\n
Despite the worsening traffic, the agency has not made any
\neffort to help motorists by, for example, installing the
\nnecessary traffic signs.<\/p>\n
The lack of cooperation between state institutions has become
\ncommonplace in this country. The result is that efforts to
\nresolve an existing problem have created a new one, instead.<\/p>\n
