New service from Telkom<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Regional Division II of the state-owned
\ntelecommunications company PT Telkom will open a special phone
\nnumber -- 162 -- next month to give customers installation
\ninformation.<\/p>\n
Bambang Riadhy Oemar, head of the division, which covers the
\nGreater Jakarta area, said in a statement yesterday that the
\nspecial number is a special service for the public.<\/p>\n
He said that the phone number is already operational in Bogor
\nand Central Jakarta but that only a few people are aware of it.<\/p>\n
"Starting from next month, however, all Greater Jakarta
\nresidents will be able to dial it," he said.<\/p>\n
By dialing 162, people can get information about the
\ninstallation of new telephone numbers without having to come to
\nthe company's representative office, Bambang said.<\/p>\n
"They can just give their data, name, addresses and post
\ncodes. Telkom's officers will then come to the customers as long
\nas the telephone networks reach their residential areas," he
