        "content": "<p>New rule on low-cost apartment<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The city administration is preparing a new<br>\nregulation which will require developers to build low-cost<br>\napartments instead of the modest houses they currently have to<br>\nbuild, an official said.<\/p>\n<p>H. Prawoto Danoemihardjo, the city's secretary assistant for<br>\nthe development administration, told reporters on Thursday that<br>\nthe new regulation will constitute a modification of Regulation<br>\nNo.540\/1990.<\/p>\n<p>\"Under the existing regulation, developers are obliged to set<br>\naside 20 percent of housing estate land for the construction of<br>\nmodest houses,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new regulation, however, the developers will no<br>\nlonger be asked to build houses but low-cost apartments.<\/p>\n<p>Developers to be asked to build the low-cost apartments are<br>\nthose whose lands for each housing estate covers at least 5,000<br>\nsquare meters, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the social and public facilities which have to be<br>\nhanded over to the city administration, the low-cost apartments<br>\nwill be under the supervision of the developers after<br>\nconstruction, Prawoto said, adding that the low-cost apartments<br>\nhave to be built in the same vicinity as the housing estates.<\/p>\n<p>\"What we need now is the social awareness of the developers.<br>\nThe developers should not make any excuses by saying that it is<br>\ngetting increasingly difficult to find land in Jakarta for the<br>\ndevelopment of low-cost houses,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Public Housing Akbar Tandjung urged the city<br>\nadministration recently to cancel building permits owned by<br>\ndevelopers who refuse to abide by the rules.
