New road wrecked in a month<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The road connecting Lemah Abang and Pasir
\nTanjung districts in Bekasi, about 30 kilometers east of here,
\nhas deteriorated a month after its completion.<\/p>\n
The damage leaves two rural villages, Pasir Tanjung and Pasir
\nGembong isolated from its surrounding villages.<\/p>\n
A resident of Pasir Tanjung, Abidin, said that the asphalt
\ncrust peeled off only a week after it was finished, exposing the
\nrocks that make up the foundation of the road.<\/p>\n
Three weeks thereafter, pot holes emerged and the recent
\nfloods from the nearby Cibe'et river have exacerbated the
\nsituation, he told Republika daily.<\/p>\n
The road, the building contract for which went to CV Sinar
\nPutra, has at least three seriously damaged segments covering up
\nto 20 meters in length each.<\/p>\n
Residents said they suspect foul play in the construction
\nprocess.<\/p>\n
"It seemed that the road was built by different contractors at
\ndifferent times," said Abidin.<\/p>\n
Others said they suspect that deviations from the road
\nbuilding plan have occurred.<\/p>\n
Abdul Manan, the speaker of the Regency Legislative Council
\nsaid building plan deviation cases are quite common in Bekasi.<\/p>\n
"I hope the government will take firm action against
\ndelinquent developers," Manan said.<\/p>\n
However, Agus Juhara, an official from the Bekasi regency
\noffice said he doubted that there had been any violations of the
\nroad building plan.<\/p>\n
"I inspected the area, and saw no deviation from the plan,"
\nJuhara told Republika.<\/p>\n
Bekasi's regent is scheduled to dedicate the road concurrently
\nwith the Cipamingkis bridge in Cibarusah district soon, a Bekasi
