New retail concept opens in Jakarta<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A new retail center, Kelapa Gading Mall in North
\nJakarta, will open this month, and is expected to draw the
\nattention of international shoppers, Jakarta's large expatriate
\ncommunity and the city's wealthy Indonesians.<\/p>\n
The opening of the US$37.42 million facility will speed up
\nJakarta's intention to gain ground on its regional counterparts
\nin the luxury retail industry: Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok.<\/p>\n
Designed by international architects, The Rice Daubney Group,
\nand managed by their Jakarta office, PT Rice Daubney Cipta, the
\nthree-story mall took three years to construct.<\/p>\n
The Rice Daubney Group won an international retail design
\ncompetition against other large multi-national architectural
\nfirms for the project.<\/p>\n
\"Our Jakarta-based mix of Indonesian and expatriate staff
\nadded extensive local knowledge of building conditions and design
\nparameters,\" Rod Trotter, a director of the Sydney-based group,
\nsaid over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The project was developed by PT Summarecon Agung, a local
\nhousing developer whose Kelapa Gading estate incorporates
\nschools, apartments, one of Jakarta's largest sports clubs and
\nthe new retail complex.<\/p>\n
Kelapa Gading Mall and Jakarta's other retail malls -- Plaza
\nIndonesia, Blok M Mall, Citraland Mall and Pondok Indah Mall --
\nwill undoubtedly position Indonesia's capital as a Southeast
