New regents, mayors installed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Following the enactment of the law on regional
\nautonomy, Minister of Home Affairs Syarwan Hamid inaugurated five
\nnew regencies and six mayoralties at a ceremony on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The five regencies are Aceh Singkil in Aceh, Way Kanan and
\nEast Lampung in Lampung, Bengkayang in West Kalimantan and North
\nLuwu in South Sulawesi. The six mayoralties are Dumai in Riau,
\nMetro in Lampung, Cilegon and Depok in West Java, Banjarbaru in
\nSouth Kalimantan and Ternate in Maluku.<\/p>\n
The minister swore in the following acting regents: Makmur
\nSyahputra for Aceh Singkil, Tamanuri for Way Kanan, Muhammad
\nNurdin for East Lampung, Jacobus Luna for Bengkayang and Muchtar
\nLuthfy Mutty for North Luwu.<\/p>\n
The following acting mayors were also inducted: Zainuddin
\nAbdullah for Dumai, Mozes Herman for Metro, Rifa'i Halir for
\nCilegon, Badrul Kamal for Depok, Akhmad Fakhrulli for Banjabaru
\nand Syamsir Andili for Ternate.<\/p>\n
Syarwan explained the purpose of establishing new regencies
\nand mayoralties was to reduce central government control and to
\nachieve efficiency and effective administration in the regions.<\/p>\n
With the eleven new regions, the total number of regencies and
\nmayoralties reaches 338. (rms)<\/p>",
