New policy for village development<\/p>\n
PALU, Central Sulawesi: The government has issued three new
\npolicies on village development in anticipation of the social
\nchanges occurring as a result of development and the global era.<\/p>\n
\"The policies include empowering the public and giving them
\nautonomy and authority in development. It will modernize the
\nsocioeconomic structure and public culture in their villages,\"
\nthe Home Ministry's Director General of Villagers Development, H.
\nSiagian, said here yesterday.<\/p>\n
Empowering village society will be achieved through strategic
\nsteps to widen the public's access to the fruits of development
\nand their ability to improve their own resources.<\/p>\n
To support these steps, the government will provide
\nopportunities for villages to actively participate in the
\ndevelopment process, Siagian said in a seminar here yesterday.<\/p>\n
He was quoted by Antara as saying that the government will
\ngrant autonomy to local residents, with due consideration to each
\nregion's potential and the problems they face.<\/p>\n
\"With autonomy, the people are expected to identify their own
\nneeds and become more active in national development,\" he
