New PBSI board set up in two weeks<\/p>\n

With the Jakarta governor holding chairmanship of the
\nBadminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), the association's new
\nexecutive board is expected to be finalized within two weeks.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso was appointed PBSI chairman for the 2004-2008 term
\nover media tycoon Dahlan Iskan at an extraordinary meeting on
\nSaturday. The governor replaces Chairul Tanjung, who was forced
\nto resign because of national players' poor performance during
\nhis tenure.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso, whose new post has prompted him to relinquish
\nanother at the Indonesian Basketball Association, will be
\nassisted by a special committee of five regional representatives:
\nKoesdarto Pramono for Yogyakarta, H.M. Fahriadi for South
\nKalimantan, Syahfrizal Ucok for West Sumatra and Mustafa Djide
\nfor South Sulawesi\/eastern Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso is mulling over the right candidate for PBSI
\nsecretary-general position, who follows the chairman in rank and
\nresponsibility.<\/p>\n
\"I will choose a person that we can count on... If possible, I
\nwill make a selection from a shortlist of those who have been
\nwith PBSI,\" he said on Tuesday, adding that he already had two
\ncandidates in mind, but could not yet disclose their names.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso is also considering trimming the association's daily
\ncosts by paring down the central board.<\/p>\n
For the last few years, PBSI officials have been complaining
\nabout the lack of funds for sending national shuttlers --
\nparticularly junior athletes -- to overseas tournaments.<\/p>\n
In turn, players' inexperience in regional and international
\nmeets has been blamed for Indonesia's dismal performance.<\/p>\n
While indicating that more opportunities would given to
\nplayers, Sutiyoso said the PBSI would be more selective in
\nrecruiting athletes to the national training camp.<\/p>\n
\"There are simply too many of them right now. If they are not
\nable to meet the training camp requirements, they must train in
\ntheir regions first, so our spending can be controlled,\" he said.<\/p>",
