PT Industri Nabati Lestari (INL), a subsidiary of PT Perkebunan\nNusantara (PTPN) IV PalmCo and PTPN III (Persero), has commenced\noperations at a cooking oil packaging facility located in the Kalimas\nPort area, Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, East Java. The presence of this\nfacility is expected to accelerate the distribution of cooking oil to\nEastern Indonesia while reducing logistics costs by up to 40 per\ncent.<\/p>\n
Jatmiko K. Santosa, President Director of PTPN IV PalmCo, stated that\nthe packaging facility, which was inaugurated on Friday (5\/6), is part\nof the company\u2019s strategy to bring distribution points closer to key\nmarkets in Central and Eastern Indonesia. Previously, packaged cooking\noil was shipped directly from processing plants in the Sei Mangkei\nSpecial Economic Zone (SEZ) in North Sumatra. Now, products will be\nshipped in bulk to Surabaya to be packaged and subsequently distributed\nto Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.<\/p>\n
\u201cPreviously, products were sent in packaged form from North Sumatra.\nBy conducting packaging in Surabaya, distribution becomes more efficient\nand logistics costs can be reduced by up to 40 per cent,\u201d said\nJatmiko.<\/p>\n
He explained that Surabaya was selected as the location for the new\nfacility due to its strong port connectivity with various regions in\nEastern Indonesia. This condition allows for shorter shipping times\nwhile maintaining supply availability in destination areas. According to\nJatmiko, strengthening the distribution network is part of PalmCo\u2019s\ntransformation, which focuses not only on the production of crude palm\noil (CPO) but also on expanding downstream businesses that provide\nhigher added value.<\/p>\n
\u201cPTPN has been tasked to serve as a reliable state instrument in\nmaintaining supply availability and the stability of the national palm\noil industry. Therefore, we continue to strengthen downstreaming and\ndistribution so that products can reach the public more effectively,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
Distribution efficiency is considered vital as logistics costs remain\na major challenge in the national food supply chain. For essential\ncommodities such as cooking oil, high shipping costs often impact retail\nprices, particularly in island regions far from production centres.<\/p>\n
The operation of the packaging facility is carried out through a\npartnership with PT Lestari Jaya Indonesia Maju (LJIM). Commissioner of\nPT LJIM, Mayjen TNI (Ret.) Gamal Hary\u2019o Putro, noted that the initial\ndistribution from the new facility has received a positive market\nresponse.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe see a significant market demand. Therefore, distribution will\ncontinue to be strengthened alongside increasing operational capacity\nand market absorption,\u201d said Gamal. He added that distribution capacity\nwill be increased gradually, with a primary focus on ensuring the smooth\nsupply of cooking oil to various regions in Central and Eastern\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
PalmCo believes that the scheme of shipping cooking oil in bulk from\nNorth Sumatra to be packaged in Surabaya not only accelerates\ndistribution but also enhances the company\u2019s operational efficiency and\nstrengthens product competitiveness in the market.
