        "content": "<p>New No. 1 judge appointed in KL<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A former journalist was appointed<br>\nMalaysia's new top judge by a conference of state sultans<br>\nThursday, the national Bernama news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah, 63, will become the Chief Justice<br>\nof the Federal Court, Malaysia's highest court, Bernama cited a<br>\nstatement from the conference as saying.<\/p>\n<p>It was not clear when the appointment takes effect.<br>\nMohamed Dzaiddin replaces Eusoff Chin, whose term was extended<br>\nfor six months in June amid a debate over whether he compromised<br>\nhis duties by taking a vacation with a high-profile lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>Eusoff turned 65 this year, the compulsory age of retirement.<br>\nEusoff, who has been chief justice since September 1994, denied<br>\nany wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>His successor, Mohamed Dzaiddin, was a reporter with<br>\nMalaysia's Malay Mail daily and became a High Court judge in<br>\n1982.<\/p>",
