        "content": "<p>New network introduced<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT Sisindosat, a subsidiary of the state-owned<br>\ninternational telecommunications company, PT Indosat, launched<br>\nhere yesterday a new computer network which will lead to the<br>\ntechnology of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM).<\/p>\n<p>Sisindosat's executive Karnajaya P. Putra told reporters that<br>\nthe equipment named Geo Switch is manufactured by an American<br>\ncompany, Ungermann-Bass (UB).<\/p>\n<p>ATM is a connecting-oriented switching technology like a<br>\ntelephone network. By delivering one common solution for data,<br>\nvoice and video running across local area network, ATM promises<br>\nto make networks more manageable and to have much longer life<br>\nexpectancies.<\/p>\n<p>Karnajaya said that his company will market the products to<br>\nits traditional customers including the central bank (Bank<br>\nIndonesia), the Jakarta Mayoralty, the state's electricity<br>\ncompany PLN, PT Arun and Pertamina.<\/p>\n<p>UB's executive Philip Mellet said that his company expects<br>\ntotal sales of US$5 million in Indonesia this year through<br>\nSisindosat as its sole distributor.
