        "content": "<p>New military chief sets tough antidrug agenda<\/p>\n<p>Soldiers involved in drugs to be punished: Ryamizard<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Newly installed Jakarta Military commander Maj.<br>\nGen. Ryamizard Ryacudu vowed on Friday to take stern measures<br>\nagainst any of his officers found guilty of trafficking and drug<br>\nuse.<\/p>\n<p>\"We'll take firm action against them. Officers proven to be<br>\ndrug traffickers will be dismissed, while drug users will have<br>\ntheir promotion put on hold for up to two years,\" Ryamizard said<br>\nafter his inauguration ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Ryamizard said that in an effort to stop city military<br>\npersonnel involvement in drugs, he would set a special agenda for<br>\nimplementing strict punishment for drug infractions.<\/p>\n<p>Ryamizard, 48, said that he would soon discuss the plan with<br>\nhis staff.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will handle this matter in accordance with the existing<br>\nlaws,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>A number of military personnel have reportedly been arrested<br>\nfor drug involvement in the past few years, but almost none of<br>\nthem have been brought to court.<\/p>\n<p>Ryamizard also promised to continue his predecessor's steps in<br>\nsafeguarding Jakarta's security and in enhancing military<br>\nofficers' professionalism.<\/p>\n<p>The former East Java military commander replaced Maj. Gen.<br>\nDjadja Suparman, who has been promoted as chief of the Army's<br>\nStrategic Reserves Command. The handover ceremony was led on<br>\nFriday by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Subagyo Hadisiswoyo.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Subagyo praised Ryamizard saying that the<br>\nlatter had a good reputation from his previous post. He said he<br>\nbelieved that Ryamizard would also succeed in his new post.<\/p>\n<p>\"Although the dynamics of the challenge in Jakarta is<br>\ndifferent from East Java, I believe that based on his vast<br>\nexperience he can make it here,\" Subagyo said.<\/p>\n<p>Two former military command chiefs attended the ceremony,<br>\nnamely Coordinating Minister of Politics and Security Gen.<br>\nWiranto and Governor Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n<p>Ryamizard's father-in-law, former vice president Try Sutrisno,<br>\nwas not at the ceremony.
