The Ampera level crossing in Bekasi has been upgraded with automatic gates, warning lights, and sirens following a recent collision between a taxi and a commuter train, aimed at enhancing road safety. Currently in trial operation, the full system awaits the completion of a guard post within the next two weeks to a month, while manual operations and joint personnel from transportation authorities, military, and volunteers have already improved traffic discipline. Local motorists express relief at the added security, hoping for continued oversight even after full automation.

BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — The Ampera level crossing in Duren Jaya Ward,
East Bekasi Subdistrict, Bekasi City, now sports a new look after the
installation of automatic gates following a taxi Green SM and KRL
accident in the East Bekasi area some time ago.

On both sides of the tracks, automatic gate devices have been
erected, complete with lights and warning sirens.

However, these facilities are not yet fully operational and were only
trialled on Tuesday (12/5/2026) for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Full operations are still awaiting the construction of the direct
level crossing guard post (JPL), which is expected to be completed in
the next two weeks to one month.

Although the automatic system is not yet fully operational, the
situation at the crossing appears more orderly than before.

Motorists are starting to stop when the manual gates are closed, and
no vehicles are seen recklessly crossing the tracks when the train
passes.

The atmosphere around the crossing also seems more organised.

Combined personnel from the Transportation Department (Dishub), TNI
Babinsa, to civilian volunteers in uniform can be seen guarding both
sides of the tracks to help regulate traffic.

A motorcyclist, Yudi (25), said the presence of automatic gates makes
road users feel safer when crossing.

“It’s quite safe with the automatic gates. It also feels more
directed if there are people guarding,” Yudi said when met at the
location.

The presence of personnel on the ground also makes motorists more
compliant than before.

Yudi hopes that security at the crossing will continue to be
maintained strictly even after the automatic gates are officially
operational.

“If it remains open, I hope it continues to be guarded because the
gates alone are not enough; there needs to be someone to regulate
traffic,” he said.
",
