New libraries for orphanages<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Forty-five girls in Putra Setia orphanage in
\nCentral Jakarta can now enjoy a collection of 500 titles of
\nstorybooks and literature in their small library.<\/p>\n
The books, along with bookshelves and boxes of powdered milk,
\nwere donated by milk producer PT Friesche Vlag Indonesia (FVI) in
\na ceremony here last weekend.<\/p>\n
FVI, producer of powdered milk Susu Bendera (Indonesian for
\nFrisian Flag), simultaneously donated the books and milk to four
\nother orphanages in Jakarta's other four mayoralties. Similar
\nprograms are slated through early December in Medan, Padang,
\nPalembang, Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Semarang and Makassar.<\/p>\n
The company's personnel manager, Hendro Harijogi, said the
\ncompany takes Rp 500 from every product it sells to fund the
\nsocial program, called Peduli Anak Indonesia (Care for Indonesian
\nChildren).<\/p>\n
\"We're not doing this alone as our consumers also contributed
\nto the program,\" Hendro told reporters at Putra Setia orphanage
\nin Kramat Sentiong, which houses females aged between six and 21
\nyears old.<\/p>\n
Matthijs Wiggers, the firm's marketing director, said the FVI
\nwould continue its social programs. \"But we'll keep focusing on
\nchildren.\"<\/p>\n
Siska, one of the eldest among her friends at the orphanage,
\nsaid: \"Although most of the books are for young children, we love
\nhaving them. I wish we could get more of them, including comic
\nbooks,\" she said, smiling sheepishly. (01)<\/p>",
